Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide (Metsulfuron) METSULFURON-METHYL-BOW-SAW Apparent AG

Description

Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Metsulfuron-Methyl @ 600g/kg

Similar Or Comparable To: Brush-Off (Dupont), Ally (Dupont), Associate (Nufarm), Ozcrop Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide (Ozcrop) & Militia Metsulfuron (Axichem)

Bow Saw Metsulfuron Methyl 600 WG Herbicide is used for the control of certain broadleaf weeds in winter cereal crops and broadleaf weeds and brush species (woody weeds) in pastures, rights of way, commercial and industrial areas as per the Directions For Use table.

Bow Saw Metsulfuron Methyl is a residual sulfonylurea compound, used as a selective pre and postemergence herbicide for broadleaf weeds and some annual grasses. It is a systemic compound with foliar and soil activity, and it works rapidly after it is taken up by the plant. Its mode of action is by inhibiting cell division in the shoots and roots of the plant, and it is biologically active at low use rates. It is very effective on weeds that include bulbs or tubers.

Bow Saw Metsulfuron Methyl is commonly used in broadacre farming, woody weed & brush control and forestry situations. It is usually used together with other herbicides that control the weeds not susceptible to metsulfuron. Metsulfuron-methyl also controls susceptible weeds in cereals, where selectivity is due to rapid metabolism within the cereal plants.

Brush Control: Bow Saw Metsulfuron Methyl 600 controls more than 40 different species of brush, broadleaf and bulbous weeds. Mixed infestations of hard-to-control woody weeds, including Lantana, Gorse, Bracken, Tree-of-Heaven and Blackberry, are also easily controlled with one pass. Bow Saw Metsulfuron Methyl 600 also controls nuisance pasture weeds, including Doublegee, Erodium, Sorrel, Onion grass and Paterson’s Curse, & many more. For a full table of weeds controlled, refer to the directions of use.

Broad Acre: Bow Saw Metsulfuron Methyl 600 is a highly selective herbicide for the control of many broadleaf weeds in winter cereals. It can be applied any time from the three-leaf stage of the crop – when the weeds are young and actively growing – to before booting. Bow Saw Metsulfuron Methyl 600 is compatible with a wide range of grass and broadleaf herbicides, making weed control even more cost-effective with one-pass application.

Best and cheapest chemical for Lantana

    Sean (verified owner)

This stuff is deadly on lantana. The recommended dose is 10g per 100 litres of water, however I use 40g per 100l. Pretty well a 100% kill rate at this level yet remains very economical. ( atm about $2.20 per 100l ) Doesn’t affect my pastures and will often kill other weeds. I add 500m/l of 625 Amine per 100l to kill seasonal weeds aswell , such as thistles, wild peach, wild tobacco, cassia and peppermint weed . Comes out to $6 per 100l of spray. After 3 years of developing my spray technique no lantana has grown back. Thoroughly wet the plant and also soak the stem and ground near it. I use a fire hose and 6hp pump to achieve a saturated result. Also cuts spraying time by heaps . Spray lantana when flowering, usually between December and April , inclusive.

Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide should be applied at 15 grams per hectare when spraying onion grass (Guildford grass) in established pastures (Vic, SA, NSW, WA & Tas). The water rate should be enough to ensure thorough coverage of all plants and a uniform spray pattern. Via boom spray, a minimum of 50 litres of water per hectare is recommended, and a suitable wetting agent is included. The spraying of onion grass is recommended at bulb exhaustion before the onset of browning off (usually late June to early July). The directions for use must be read before application. These are available via the Specialist Sales website at the Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide product pate. Search for the 'SDS & Technical' tab to locate the instructions for use.

The APVMA does not list a withholding period for grazing areas sprayed with Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide on its own when used as directed.  A WHP applies if the Bow-Saw is mixed with other products in a tank-mix situation.  You will need to consult the labels of the other products to identify the WHP.  The Trade Advice (ESI) for Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide is unlisted (blank) by the APVMA.  A call to the manufacturer (Apparent Ag 03 9822 1321) or the APVMA (02 6770 2300  / [email protected]) is recommended as this information may have been recently updated.

As per the directions for use for Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide (found in the 'SDS and Technical' Tab on the website), there are two recommendations for application to Gorse.

    1. Brush control in pastures, rights of way, commercial and industrial areas - 10gm/100L Water + 200mL/100L Penetrant
    2. Tank Mixing Bow-Saw 600 & Glyphosate 360 - 400mL Glyphosate 360 plus 3gm Bow-Saw per 100L Water.

  11. Q Will Bow-Saw Metsulfuron 600WG Herbicide kill blackberries?
Asked by John Gore on February 28, 2022 8:41 am
    Answered by the admin

Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide is registered to control Blackberry.  On its own, it is mixed at 1gm per 10L Water + a good penetrant (i.e. Consume) at 10mL per 10L Water.  Other options are to mix it with Glyphosate (40mL per 10L).

    The mix we recommend for the best results to control Blackberry is;

Grazon Extra Herbicide @ 35-50mL per 10L Water
Metsulfuron Methyl Herbicide @ 1gm per 10L Water
    Consume Penetrant @ 10mL per 10L Water

Bow Saw Metsulfuron-Methyl is a slow-acting herbicide.  Unlike fast-acting knockdown products (i.e. Roundup Glyphosate), where you will see effects within several days, Metsulfuron can take weeks or longer depending on the type of weeds being controlled.

The chemical mix we would recommend for the most effective blackberry control would be all three products.  It is common practice to mix metsulfuron with grazon as it has a synergistic effect to spike the mix for the best kill.  A surfactant or penetrant is always recommended to ensure complete coverage and penetration of the chemical.

Tips For Use

Restraints (brush Applications):

  • Do not spray if rainfall is expected within 4 hours. Do not store the prepared spray for more than 2 days.
  • Do not store tank mixes with other products.
  • Do not apply to pastures based on paspalum notatum or setaria spp. As their vegetative growth will be reduced.
  • Do not treat newly sown pastures as severe damage may occur.
  • Do not use on pasture seed crops.

Use of Surfactant/ Wetting Agent:

  • Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 wg herbicide alone – it is important that a penetrant, surfactant or wetting agent is always used with this product. If no specific wetting agent/ surfactant is recommended in the directions for use table use a non-ionic surfactant (100%) at 100ml/ 100l of final spray volume.
  • Bow Saw Metsulfuron 600 WG Herbicide tank mixed with Glyphosate – Use a non-ionic surfactant when mixing with glyphosate herbicide. In some tank mix situations the use of an organosilicone penetrant (eg Pulse, Eurochem Penetrant, Probe or Saturate) is recommended. This recommendation must be strictly followed in order to achieve adequate weed control.
  • Gas gun applications – An organosilicone penetrant (eg Pulse, Eurochem Penetrant, Probe or Saturate) should be added at the rate of 10mL/ 5L or 200mL/100L of final spray volume.

Where a mineral spray oil is recommended use 1L/100L of final spray volume (ie 1% volume/volume). A non-ionic surfactant should still be used with this mixture.

Always read the instructions on the companion product label when tank mixing.

Compatibility:

This product is compatible with glyphosate formulations and commonly used pasture & broadacre herbicides such as MCPA Amine, MCPA Ester, 2,4-D Amine, Dicamba, Clopyralid (Lontrel), Fluroxypyr (Starane), and commonly used insecticides such as chlorpyrifos and omethoate. Always refer to the companion product label for instructions/ restrictions.

Ecological and Environmental Effects:

  • Bow Saw Metsulfuron-Methyl has a low toxicity to birds, aquatic organisms (including fish), bees and earthworms.
  • The breakdown of metsulfuron-methyl in soils is largely dependent on soil temperature, moisture content, and pH.(acidity / alkalinity)
  • The chemical will degrade faster under acidic conditions, and in soils with higher moisture content and higher temperature.
  • The chemical has a higher mobility potential in alkaline soils, due to its higher solubility.
  • Metsulfuron-methyl is stable to photolysis, but will break down in ultraviolet light. It is also stable to hydrolysis in neutral and alkaline conditions.
  • Metsulfuron-methyl is rapidly taken up by plants at the roots and on foliage. The chemical is translocated throughout the plant, but is not persistent. In tolerant plants, it is broken down to non-herbicidal products.

Safety Directions:

  • Harmful if swallowed.
  • Will irritate the eyes and skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • When opening the container and preparing spray, wear elbow-length PVC gloves and goggles.
  • If applying by hand wear cotton overalls, over normal clothing, buttoned to the neck and wrist and a washable hat and elbow length PVC gloves.
  • If product on skin, immediately wash area with soap and water.
  • If product in eyes, wash out immediately with water.
  • Wash hands after use.
  • After each day’s use, wash gloves, goggles and contaminated clothing.

Protection of Livestock:

  • There is a nil withholding period for this product and stock may continue to graze where the product has been used in pasture situations.
  • It is recommended that stock are removed from the pasture for about 3 days to ensure product efficacy.
  • Certain plants such as bracken are naturally toxic to stock.
  • When toxic plants are present, it is recommended that grazing be delayed until complete browning of treated plants has occurred.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.
  • For further information, refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
